Who is Sheikh Muhammad Balarabe?

Sheikh Muhammad Balarabe ibn Abdul-Qadir ibn Muhammad ibn Didori was born in the city of Gusau the capital of Zamfara state on Monday, 12th of Ramadan, in the year 1338 AH (1919 CE).

He was born into a scholarly environment. His father, the teacher Abdul-Qadir, formed a religious school in his home, where he was grew in a virtuous and good environment. He learned the fundamentals pillars of different sciences from his father, then moved to nearby Quranic schools, where he learned what he could of the Quranic sciences and the basics of jurisprudence and linguistics.

Afterward, his soul keeps evaporating for deeper knowledge, so he traveled widely in various places, such as:

Zaria, a local government of Kaduna State, Nigeria

Katsina,

Kano,

And many others.

When his heart was filled with education and became a learned, he returned to his hometown to develop the educational methods there in.

His Meeting with great scholar

After a short time, his ambition extended from the past to the future, leading him to meet SHEIKH IBRAHIM NIAS, the great scholar of his time.

Sheikh Muhammad Balarabe and his friend, Sheikh Ibrahim Balarabe Jiga and others, received divine knowledge and spiritual secrets. They and their followers decided to establish a school for the Holy Quran to spread Islam, the Sufi path, and the divine grace throughout the world. They chose the city of Jega, as their headquarters and remained there for a time.

Focusing solely on this endeavor with diligence and excellent organization, until Sheikh Ibrahim Balarabe Jiga passed away.

His return to his homeland

Sheikh Muhammad Balarabe then returned to his hometown of Gusau with many companions, and they continued their efforts until Allah granted them success, and their institution spread far and wide, spreading knowledge, guidance, and light.

His charisma and Experience

The Almighty Allah blessed him with nineteen children, (19) both men and women, renowned for their knowledge and exemplary in their generosity.

Among his popular sons were the righteous saint, the successful imam, the miracle worker, Sheikh Ibrahim, the Calipha, and the accomplished scholar, the learned man, the mentor of the pure, Sheikh Dr. Atiku.

Through him, Sheikh Muhammad Balarabe Allah brought forth noble, pious, and pure individuals, whose like is rarely seen. They spread throughout the lands, illuminating the path of guidance and enlightening the times. Among them were the righteous saint, the Imam of Imams, Sheikh Muhammad MAINASARA; the learned leader, Sheikh MURTADHA SHUAIB, the versatile scholar, the ocean of knowledge, Sheikh Muhammad BUKHRI TSIBIRI; and many others of knowledge, wisdom, wealth, and generosity.

Yet, they remained devout worshippers, bearers of the light of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) wherever they resided. May the Almighty Allah be pleased with them all. Some have passed on, and some are still waiting, and they have not changed their ways in the slightest.

His Attitude towards others.

SHEIKH MUHAMMAD BALARABE treated others with kindness and respect, a fact attested to by all who lived with him or associated with him. Allah bestowed upon him such generosity and dignity that it made one forget all others forever. He was generous and open-handed, never forgetting the young or the old, men or women. He was gentle, eloquent, forbearing, and patient. He forgave those who wronged him, appreciated the invitation of anyone who sought him out, even the humblest of people, and honored those who sat with him.

His Legacy and principle

He never interrupted conversations, sharing in people’s joys and sorrows, and finding solace in his presence. He treated people with respect, elevating their status or even their rank. He was content with his position and avoided gossip and idle talk. He concealed faults and never divulged secrets. And all this is but a small part of his many virtues.

His Contribution towards the Establishment of Zawiyyah.

He built his blessed zawiyya (Sufi lodge) and constructed its buildings, which were named after him: “ZAWIYYA OF SHEIKH MUHAMMAD BALARABE Gusau.” He also established the foundations of his incompetent school, which was given various illustrious names, the last of which was “The SCHOOL OF HIZB AL-RAHIM, the STUDENTS OF SHEIKH IBRAHIM,” may Allah be pleased with them both.

After a long life filled with goodness, enlightenment, blessings, and secrets, he passed away to the highest abode, in a seat of truth with the Almighty King, on the night of Ramadan.
